Discover the reid: hand-distilled New World single malt vodka with alpine water from Mount Cardrona

The Reid vodka at rest in its box

There’s a new diva in the vodka world, and she hails from New Zealand’s Cardrona Distillery. Super premium single malt vodka, the reid, is crafted from malted barley, yeast, and pure Alpine water sourced from the heart of Mount Cardrona, on New Zealand’s South Island.

Distilled in a German made Jacob Carl column still, the result is a distinctive flavour profile. Our tasting notes speak of buttery biscuits and candy Bonbons, and a luxuriously creamy mouthfeel.

Created by Cardona founder Desiree Reid, the reid is hand-distilled and bottled in Cardona. Pairing suggestions include fish, game and farm produce. It also lends a premium twist to classic cocktails (see our suggestions below).

The liquid is presented in a gorgeous, sculptured vessel, sure to attract admiring glances.

Founded in 2015, Cardrona Distillery claims to be one of Australasia’s fastest growing super premium distilleries.  It’s located in the Cardrona valley, in the Southern Alps of New Zealand, just 40 minutes from Queenstown airport.  All Cardona spirits are made from grain to glass on site, with three core ingredients: pure Cardrona alpine water, malted barley, and distillers’ yeast.

The Cardrona Distillery, which also produces single malt whisky, gin, and liqueurs, offers daily distillery tours, along with a restaurant and cocktail bar.

Bottled at 44% ABV, The Reid single malt vodka sells for £55 (700ml), and is available from Harrods, selected Waitrose stores and Master of Malt.
