Star Wars: The Acolyte, a new live action SF series from Lucasfilm, will be released June 5, with the first two episodes available to stream on Disney+.
Described as a mystery thriller, the inaugural eight-episode season pits a Jedi Master (played by Lee Jung-jae) against a dangerous warrior from his past, a former Padawan disciple (Amandla Stenberg).
The new series is set approximately 100 years before the events of Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace, at the end of the franchise’s High Republic era, a time period hitherto explored only in Star Wars books and comics.
As the story unfolds, the pair travel down a dark path where sinister forces reveal all is not what it seems…

The series also stars Manny Jacinto, Dafne Keen, Charlie Barnett, Jodie Turner-Smith, Rebecca Henderson, Dean-Charles Chapman, Joonas Suotamo, and Carrie-Anne Moss.
Star Wars: The Acolyte has been created by Leslye Headland, the visionary behind the Netflix time-loop hit Russian Doll, who also serves as executive producer, along with Kathleen Kennedy, Simon Emanuel, Jeff F. King and Jason Micallef. Charmaine DeGraté and Kor Adana are the co-executive producers. Rayne Roberts, Damian Anderson, Eileen Shim and Rob Bredow are the producers.
Headland also directed the first two episodes. Rounding out directional duties on the show are Kogonada, Alex Garcia Lopez and Hanelle Culpepper.
The Acolyte mainly uses practical sets and location photography, rather than virtual sets, as favoured on The Mandalorian.
Award-winning composer Michael Abels, best known for his work on Jordan Peele’s Get Out and Us, provides the score.
