MuMu Clubhouse review: Thailand’s new beach oasis is the ultimate destination for luxe music lovers

There’s nothing more dreamy than a sun soaked afternoon-that-turns-to-balmy-night spent lazed away at a lavish beach club.

So, when we heard about Thailand’s hottest new opening, MuMu Clubhouse, we had to experience it for ourselves. Set in the heart of Phuket Island, the new luxe new beach club is set on soft white sand against the the sparkling blue waters of Phuket’s largest man-made lagoon by day, and a next-level music experience by night.

Luxury lounging and epic music moments: It’s got all the makings of a tropical Thai paradise if ever we saw one.

To become the ultimate club spot, on Asia’s ultimate party island? It’s a world-class challenge. But, MuMu, we think, has done it. So much was proven at the club’s epic launch party last week, headlined by world-famous DJ and producer and Hot Creations boss Jamie Jones, and setting the bar for even more unforgettable clubbing experiences to come.

Here’s why you need to add Asia’s hottest new club to your must-visit list…

Luxury lounging by day

Picture this: palm trees swaying in the gentle breeze, plush loungers beckoning you to unwind in the shimmer of the Phuket sun, and a seemingly endless pool stretched out ahead of you. This is this sun-kissed backdrop against which MuMu invites guests to immerse themselves in, from day to night.

It’s found within the lavish Blue Tree resort in Phuket – a sprawling oasis of sandy beaches, water sports, enormous slides, and yet tranquil water almost as far as the eye can see.

Venture through the site’s restaurant and you’ll emerge on the sand of this purpose-built hideaway – complete with intimate in-pool relaxation areas and in the distance, giant water slides not for the faint-hearted – but which, I can confirm, make for excellent spectator sport to your cocktail sipping.

At the club’s lavish launch, I’m treated to a show on the water, where dancers glide together high in the air, above the club, dancing with water jetpacks: a spectacle perfectly befitting of the extravagance to come against this, Thailand’s largest man-made lagoon.

On the edge of this lagoon we find the club, designed in chic modern raffia and elevated organic interiors. Laidback luxury is most certainly the daytime vibe here; the club’s stylings are as much balearic as they are Asian – true of both its design, and the club’s Ibizan beats.

Balearic beats by night

That’s because by sunset, it’s time to let loose to the tunes of the club’s host of international DJs, in one of the biggest venues on the island – holding 4,000 partygoers at a time, in fact, with an ambiance unbeaten by other Thai clubs.

While the region is world renowned for its raucous nightlife, MuMu’s sophisticated stylings make for an altogether more adult affair – in all the best ways.

As sunset turns into night across the palm-lined outdoor club at the club’s epic launch, more and more guests in their best beach club attire take to the sand to move and let loose to a winning line up of DJs.

These include new regular DJs Leo G, Meltmode & Psynus, Rec ’N Cue & Wildealer, performing on an epic full stage to the crowd on the open-air dance floor below as sparkly bikini clad podium dancers amp up the party.

It’s guest headlined by one of the best on the circuit, the British house hero Jamie Jones, and by the time the DJ takes to the decks for his set, the excitement to launch this club in style is more palpable than ever.

While this stylish location may be a place to be seen, in the darkness and Jamie Jones’ house music set, a mix of club classics and lesser known gems, the sand proves to be a place to lose inhibitions in a music lovers’ paradise.

Building a music lovers’ paradise

It makes sense, given the new club’s background. MuMu’s Founder and Creative Director, Arthur Delaney, is a musician himself, has toured the world performing to crowds from the UK, to the USA, to Australia, Mexico, and beyond with his band HÆLOS, and understands the importance of live performance to a fine detail beyond most club proprietors.

“When I was approached about developing a new beach club at the edge of Phuket’s largest man-made lagoon earlier this year, I knew we had the potential to create something very special and I hopped on the first plane,” Delaney has said.

“Since then we have all been working to build MuMu into a dynamic creative space for music, art, design & everything in-between. We are developing the programming for a series of parties around our launch in March 2024 featuring both internationally renowned DJs and local talent. We are really excited about the announcements for MuMu we have up our sleeve.”

It’s clear as DJs take to the lavish stage at the centre of MuMu’s outdoor space: a passion for music is at the heart of the club’s nighttime shenanigans.

5-star VIP experiences

There’s no doubt that this is a destination in which to be seen: the club’s crowd of influencers and celebrities here to celebrate its opening are testament to its already-earned reputation for refinement.

So, I’m not surprised by the VIP treatment available. Private bungalows set right on the club’s outdoor space provide the perfect discrete retreat for its most A-list attendees and performers (floor to ceiling bedroom windows looking onto the club, we reckon, are a choice which takes a certain confidence, too).

The luxe service doesn’t stop there of course, extending to a grass-laden VIP area with views of the lagoon and free-flowing Moet on tap, naturally. Behind the DJ decks and right on the full-size stage, meanwhile, sit exclusive booths and tentative Thai hospitality, to keep the party’s VIP guests in the midst of the action, too.

With each topped-up champagne flute and dance behind the decks, it’s as loud and clear as the thumping music: this is Thailand’s nightlife, elevated.

Taking over Thailand’s club scene

The end of the night, of course, is just the beginning for MuMu. This month will see the new beachclub host Songkran Water Festival, officially the world’s biggest pool party – and we can think of no better place to host it, nor a better excuse to make a swift return.

Is MuMu Clubhouse the ultimate destination for those seeking a slice of paradise in Thailand? Based on its epic launch party, it’s entirely possible. Add this to your must-visit list – your beachside oasis awaits.
