You don’t need imposing loudspeakers and stack of electronics for room filling, high fidelity sound, insists Q Acoustics. The British audio specialist has just launched a fully active, micro-tower music system that delivers high-res audio from a pair of svelte powered speakers.
Its M40 music system comprises stereo enclosures which stand just 71cm tall, yet contain everything you need for a show-stopping audio performance.
The system looks ideal for music lovers who want a compact music system where space is at a premium, or those who don’t want a component-heavy hodgepodge of hi-fi separates.

This room-friendly rig is available in a choice of Black, White, and Walnut finishes, and can be placed pretty much anywhere in your listening room – either side of a TV, or up against the wall or even freestanding. Clever room EQ adjusts performance depending where you choose, during setup.
The speakers are powered by a 2 x 100 watts built-in amplifier and support Bluetooth 5.0 with aptX HD (24bit/48kHz) streaming from your smartphone or tablet. There’s also a physical digital optical audio input, and USB for 24bit/192kHz file playback. If your vinyl record player has a built in preamp, you can hook that up as well.
Audio credibility is high. The micro-towers feature the same mid/bass C3 Continuous Curved Cone 125mm driver used in its 5000 passive loudspeaker series, along with a decoupled 22mm tweeter.
The cabinets themselves have internal bracing to reduce resonance, and a new fixed grille design said to improve sonic dispersion. There’s even a subwoofer output if you want to add some bass reinforcement.
The Q Acoustics M40 micro tower system sells for £749 (€899 / $999). Shop Q Acoustics here.
