Orient adds fashionable small dial Mako 40 to its diver design watch collection

Orient Mako 40 dive watches with fashionable dials

Orient has added the Mako 40 to its popular Mako watch series. The fashion-forward model combines a sporty diver-style with a compact unisex case, just 39.9mm, compared to the 41.8mm of its predecessor.

This model is something of a style diversion for the Orient Mako line.

With the smaller case comes a movement that shows only the date, as well as a simpler dial calendar display. Bars are used for the Luminous Light hands and indices that allow the time to be read even in the dark, creating a simple, crisp dial layout.

This light feel also extends to the shape of the right side of the case, where the crown guard usually sits but has been omitted here. The rotating bezel is uncoloured, showcasing the texture of the steel.

Inside the 20-bar water resistant case is an automatic, made in Japan, calibre F6722, with hand winding. This is said to provide an accuracy range of between +25 seconds to -15 seconds per day, and has a 40-hour power reserve.

The new launch is a fashionable iteration of the company’s long standing Diver designs…

This fashionable iteration of the company’s long standing Diver designs is not an ISO standard diver’s watch, Affectionately known as Orient Mako since its launch in 2004, this series has gained popularity with its vintage aesthetic.

The new watch accentuates the colours of the dial, with the basic black and navy dials adding a sense of lightness to the Orient Mako, while the bright-toned white, apricot and lilac dials offer a more casual feel. The apricot and lilac watches come with a pull-through calfskin strap, matched to the respective dial colours.

The Orient Mako 40 sells for £349.99 (black, blue and white dial versions), with the apricot and lilac options priced at £329.99.
