The Le Mans 24 Hours is more than just a race; it’s an institution that has left an indelible mark on the motorsport world. The race was first held in 1923 near the town of Le Mans, France. It quickly gained fame for its unique format, where drivers had to push their cars to the limits over a gruelling 24-hour period. Endurance, skill, and strategy were the keys to victory.

Over the years, Le Mans became a showcase of automotive engineering and innovation, with manufacturers using the race as a proving ground for their latest technologies.

The race’s history is rich with legendary moments and fierce rivalries, making it a significant event in motorsport lore. It has seen triumphs and tragedies, heroic drives, and innovative designs. Notable car manufacturers like Porsche, Jaguar, and Ferrari have all etched their names into Le Mans history with outstanding performances, and their storied cars will be the highlights of Salon Privé’s tribute.

The show should provide a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for car enthusiasts to get up close and personal with these lauded Le Mans racers. Attendees can inspect the cars, admire their design and engineering, and capture the powerful potency of these vehicles to share on social media.

Iconic Le Mans racers on display at Salon Privé will include…

1985 Porsche 962 004: This Porsche 962 played a pivotal role in the 1985 race. Piloted by racing legends Al Holbert, Vern Schuppan, and John Watson, it ran strongly but faced mechanical issues during the race. In 1986, it returned with Jochen Mass, Bob Wollek, and Vern Schuppan behind the wheel, securing a pole position before retiring. The car continued its success with an impressive fifth-place finish in 1988.

1988 Porsche 962 200: One of the bespoke Richard Lloyd Racing 962s, this car was built for the 1988 season and driven by Derek Bell. It achieved a fourth-place finish on its debut and scored podiums at various races, including the Tampa World Challenge and Silverstone.

1993 Jaguar XJ220C #002: In 1993, Jaguar built three XJ220 competition cars to contest in the GT class at Le Mans. This car, driven by David Coulthard, David Brabham, and John Nielsen, led the race in its category but was later controversially disqualified.

1995 Porsche 993 GT2R: This customer race version of the 993 GT2 homologation car was driven by Jean-François Veroux in the iconic 1995 Le Mans 24 Hours, finishing 16th overall and fifth in class. The car later raced in the BPR series and successfully contested the Spa 24 Hour races in 2001 and 2002.

2011 Ferrari 458 GTE #2826: An incredibly successful Ferrari GT2 works car, this 458 GTE secured six wins in 2011, including the 1,000km of Spa and the 6 Hours of Silverstone. It finished second in class at the 2011 Le Mans 24 hours after an intense race-long battle.

Henry Pearman, a lifelong passionate follower, collector, and racer of historic endurance cars, expressed his excitement to be part of Salon Privé and celebrate decades of endurance racing. “The cars chosen perfectly capture the evolution of endurance racing since the early 1980s,” he says.

David Bagley, co-founder, and director of Salon Privé, also highlighted the joy of continuing the celebrations for 100 years of Le Mans and showcasing the colourful stories behind these iconic wheels: “We’re delighted to continue the celebrations for 100 years of the Le Mans 24 Hours with our own expertly-curated display of legendary cars. All these cars have colourful stories.”
