Marantz partners with composer Max Richter for high-end Cinema Series arrival

Composer Max Richter talks at Marantz AV launch in Hollywood

High-end Hi-Fi brand Marantz has partnered with neo-classical composer Max Richter to launch its 2023 Cinema Series of premium home cinema components.

Richter co-hosted an exclusive listening event in Los Angeles this month, at the iconic Sheats-Goldstein Residence, an early sixties building itself familiar from numerous movies, including The Big Lebowski and Charlies Angels: full throttle.

A guest list from the worlds of entertainment, design, arts and culture were treated to a preview of Richter’s next album on Marantz hardware, as well as an audience with the composer, who shared his personal musical vision.

“As a leading figure in contemporary music known for his memorable compositions for films such as Ad Astra and Mary Queen of Scots, Max is a true pioneer in music for motion pictures,” said Joel Sietsema, Marantz brand president. “He has broken ground in defining the superior experience listeners can expect from sound in cinema.”

“Sound in cinema is everything; it’s the direct access to emotions and how what you’re hearing goes very deep,“ said Richter. “As a kid, I remember the first time I heard sound on a Marantz system, it was though I hadn’t heard music before by opening the door into a completely different space. With the Cinema Series, you get that very exact experience every time.”

Marantz launches the flagship of its Cinema Series this month, the AV 10 preamp processor and matching 16-channel amplifier (pictured below).

The AV 10 is an IMAX Enhanced reference-grade 15.4-channel 8k preamp, with Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, and Auro 3D support. It offers seven HDMI inputs, all of which support video playback up to 8k. HEOS multiroom hi-res streaming is built-in. The cosmetically matching Amp 10 is a 200W per channel powerhouse.

The Marantz AV 10 and AMP 10  are priced at £6,000 ($7,000/ €7,000) apiece.

Joining the flagship duo are six integrated home cinema receivers: the Marantz Cinema 50, 60 and 70, with prices starting at £849. Each model combines Dolby Atmos sound, with cutting edge connectivity and premium design.

German British composer Max Richter draws from classical, electronic, and popular music genres. He has been praised for his ability to create music that is both deeply emotional and intellectually stimulating; his work often explores themes of memory, time, and history.

Richter’s haunting ‘On the Nature of Daylight’ was featured prominently in the Sci-Fi movie Arrival. He also composed the soundtrack for the acclaimed HBO series The Leftovers.

If you’re a classical music lover, take a listen to Richter’s reimagining of Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons (Recomposed by Max Richter: Vivaldi, The Four Seasons). The work takes the well-known piece and gives it a modern, electronic twist.
