British prosecco brand The Emissary offers finer bubbles with new DOCG Brut

British prosecco brand The Emissary has launched the Emissary Asolo Prosecco Superiore DOCG Brut, a high-end sparkling wine boasting finer bubbles.

Made from grapes grown on The Emissary’s family-run vineyard in Italy’s ‘DOCG Asolo’ (Controlled and Guaranteed Designation of Origin) region, this is the second release from the company, founded by Ed Smith to introduce superior quality prosecco to UK wine drinkers. The UK remains the largest consumer of prosecco outside of Italy.

Touted as 100 per cent vegan and environmentally friendly, it follows on from the launch of The Emissary Prosecco DOC Treviso Spumante Extra-Brut in 2018.

First unveiled in July, The Emissary Asolo Prosecco Superiore DOCG Brut is positioned as the perfect Christmas gift for prosecco lovers and an essential festive table addition.

A natural complement to canapes, fish dishes and, obviously, turkey

In polite company, this prosecco serves as a light aperitif or after dinner tipple, and makes a natural complement to canapes, fish dishes and, obviously, turkey. But our advice is don’t treat this with prosecco with weighty reverence, it’s far too fabulous to ration.

The brand is a champion of low sugar, and it’s evident on the palate here. We found the taste of this new DOCG Brut complex without being overpowering, delicate and delicious. Residual sugar is 8 g/l (Brut).

The hue is a pale straw-yellow, and the bubbles uniformly tiny.  The official tasting notes cite fruity and floral notes, but we were captivated by the combination of  zesty acidity and that oh-so-subtle sweetness.

Grape variety is 85 per cent Glera and 15 per cent Chardonnay. Alcohol is 11 per cent. Total acidity is 6 per cent.

The presentation is suitably lavish. Ideal for gifting, this Emissary wouldn’t look out of place at special occasions. It comes in a heavy black glass bottle with stylised branding, just the ticket when you want to celebrate in style.

A third addition to the Emissary portfolio, the Prosecco DOC Rosé Treviso Millesimato 2020 is due January 2021, and will be made from Glera and Pinot Noir grapes.
