I’m a Celebrity Get Me out of Here star Russell Watson has announced a special livestream gig from London’s Union Chapel, on December 11. The festive show will see the tenor singing a host of hits, including Bring Him Home, ‘O sole mio, Volare, Someone to Remember Me, Il Gladiatore, as well as Christmas favourites Silent Night and I’ll Be Home for Christmas, and follows the release of an anniversary edition of Nessun Dorma.
Originally released 20 years ago on his debut album The Voice, the performer has re-recorded the iconic track for his latest album 20, an anniversary disc which captures key moments from Russell’s career with 13 newly recorded songs.
“How many times have I sung Nessun Dorma in my life? Are we counting the seven years of singing it in clubs, five or six nights a week? In that case, thousands,” says Watson.

The singer says he wasn’t going to let lockdown stand in the way of recording the album. Travel restrictions meant that long-time producer Ian Tilley had to stay in his native New Zealand, so he assembled a socially distanced orchestra in Christchurch, while Watson hunkered down in Wilmslow, taking instructions and overseeing proceedings via Skype.
Often referred to as the People’s Tenor, Russell’s journey took him from a Salford estate to the world’s most prestigious concert halls, and to becoming the best-selling male classical artist of all time
“You don’t come from a Salford factory floor to conquering the classical world without being a driven lunatic,” he quips. Let’s hope his newly chipped tooth, acquired during an I’m a Celeb trial, doesn’t take the edge of things.
The singer plans to take his rescheduled 20th Anniversary tour on the road in 2021. In the meantime, tickets for the December livestream can be purchased from his official website.
