Super boutique Londoner Hotel moves Leicester Square opening to September 2021

The Londoner, hailed as the world’s first super boutique hotel, originally due to open in Leicester Square June 2020, will now welcome guests September 2021 instead. We suspect it’ll be worth the wait.

Citing the ongoing impact of coronavirus for the delay, the 16 storey hotel will open with interiors designed by Yabu Pushelberg and architecture by Woods Bagot. In addition to 350 guest rooms, suites and a tower penthouse with panoramic views, there are two private screening rooms and a mix of six concept eateries, including bars and a tavern, alfresco dining on the ground floor and a Japanese lounge bar with a rooftop terrace and fire pit.

The Londoner will be an iconic new addition to Leicester Square

The Londoner will also boast an expansive ballroom, a variety of meeting spaces and a gym and spa.

Coronavirus-related restrictions, which have led to a reduced number of construction workers on-site, are responsible for the move.

The Londoner is the latest project from Edwardian Hotels London. The privately-owned hotel group is also behind the development of the May Fair Hotel, the newly opened The Edwardian Manchester and a collection of restaurant and bar brands, including May Fair Kitchen, May Fair Bar, Bloomsbury Street Kitchen and the Peter Street Kitchen.

“As the Coronavirus situation sadly remains with us, more than ever the health and safety of our staff and community is our primary concern,” says Charles Oak, Hotel Director. “We remain alert to advice and continue to adapt our best practices accordingly, particularly with the construction efforts of the hotel. Work is now continuing on site and our teams will advance the development to an early 2021 timeline.”
