New Bang & Olufsen Beosound A1 could be the world’s most stylish Bluetooth speaker

Bang & Olufsen has given Alexa a style makeover, with this second-generation version its ultra chic Beosound A1 portable Bluetooth speaker.

This new A1 sports a slimmer design than its predecessor and is fully dust and waterproof. IP67 certification means that the Beosound A1 will survive a dunking, and is safe from sand and dirt. Perfect for outside use, by the pool or at the beach.

There’s also been an improvement in battery life, so you’ll now get up to 18 hours of play time (compared to 4 hours in the first edition). While the prosecco might run out during your summer picnic, the Beosound A1 will just keep on going.

The Beosound 2nd gen A1 has an 18 hour battery life

The inclusion of  Alexa voice assistance is hailed a first for a Bluetooth portable. Using Far Field microphone technology, Alexa can be activated from up to 5m away depending on room conditions and remains responsive for up to 3 hours after being turned off.  Connection to Alexa is via your smartphone or another compatible networked device.

The 3-microphone array also gives improved call clarity when the speaker doubles as a speakerphone.

As we’d expect from the Danish brand, the Beosound A1 looks deliciously fashionable. Designed in collaboration with industrial designer Cecilie Manz, the model is 7 percent lighter than the original and has slightly different cabinet design, with a tapered base.  The leather strap has a new tag for more hanging options.

An IP67 rating means this portable is sand and dust proof

The A1 has also had a user interface revamp.  Buttons have been redesigned and re positioned, placed nearer to the strap for easier location. They’re  also a tad bigger and clearer. The LED indicator has also been relocated for better all-round visibility.

Beneath the hood, two speaker drivers deliver 360-degree sound: there’s a 3.5-inch aluminum cone mid woofer, and a 19.5 mm silk dome tweeter. A pair of 30-watt class D amplifiers, with DSP filtering, offer clarity and volume. Wireless connectivity has also been upgraded to the aptX Bluetooth v5.1.

The 2nd gen Beosound A1 is as chic as they come

“Our first A1 speaker was loved by customers for its combination of minimalist design, portability, powerful sound and the built-in speakerphone that made it easy and fun to speak with friends and family. The new Beosound A1 builds on these characteristics and improves them in every way that matters”, enthuses Christoffer Østergaard Poulsen, Bang & Olufsen VP of Product Management.

The Beosound A1 is available in Black Anthracite and Grey Mist, priced at £250.
