Maserati GranTurismo: two Fuoriserie One Off versions make Milan Design Week debut

David Beckham and the Granturismo One Off Luce in Milan

The new Maserati GranTurismo took centre stage at the 2023 Milan Design Week, flanked by two GranTurismo One Offs from the Maserati Fuoriserie Programme, and joined in the virtual world by a third digital edition.

The Maserati GranTurismo One Off Prisma and the GranTurismo One Off Luce (pictured top), designed by Maserati Centro Stile, were juxtaposed with a digital One Off created by streetwear pioneer Hiroshi Fujiwara. The Japanese artist also unveiled his own interpretation of the high-performance coupé, alongside a bespoke capsule collection, made specifically for Design Week.

Adding extra glamour was the GranTurismo Launch Edition Prima Series 75th Anniversary long-distance sports car.

The GranTurismo One Off Prisma pays homage to the glorious past of Maserati, with its bodywork featuring a chromatic partnership of 14 different colours. Two of these colours are futuristic, while the other twelve are inspired by the hues of the most popular GranTurismo models of the past.

And get this: the Prisma is embellished with details of over 8,500 letters, all hand-applied to make up the names of Maserati cars. Talk about attention to detail!

The Luce, on the other hand, is a statement of innovation and sustainability, reflecting Maserati’s constant experimentation and research. Its outfit is an original chromatic mirrored monolith, engraved with a dynamic laser-etched pattern and painted in an almost absent colour that makes the contours of the car blend into its surroundings. And the interiors? They’re made entirely of ECONYL, a regenerated nylon yarn that creates a unique aesthetic metamorphosis.

Klaus Busse, Head of Design at Maserati, sums it up best: “GranTurismo Prisma is an ode to our 75-year heritage, and GranTurismo Luce is our future, looking ahead in perfect balance with Prisma.”

Hiroshi Fujiwara’s virtual Granturismo Ouroboros design (above) combines the front grill from the A6GCS Berlinetta Pininfarina and the side vents of the 3500 GT (icons of the elegance of the 1950s) along with the covered round headlights that characterised sixties racers such as the Maserati Tipo 151.

The forged wheels are inspired by the pioneering magnesium alloy wheels introduced by the Bora in the 1970s, while the connected taillight fascia is a direct reference to the ground-breaking design of the Shamal from the 1980s.

The exclusive GranTurismo Launch Edition PrimaSerie 75th Anniversary (pictured above) is available in four unique configurations, with a total of 300 units; this limited edition celebrates the quintessence of Italian luxury in terms of performance. And with 75 units of each version with an internal combustion engine and 75 for the electric Folgore version, there’s something for everyone.

The collection went on display at the new Maserati store in the heart of Milan’s Magenta district. Global brand ambassador David Beckham was at the launch, along with Japanese designer Hiroshi Fujiwara, Italian pianist and composer Dardust and Italian actress Matilda De Angelis.

Milan Design Week 2023 runs April 18-23, and incorporates the Salone del Mobile furniture fair, held at Fiera Milano exhibition centre, and the fuorisalone, fringe events which dot the city’s various districts.
