Turntable specialist Pro-Ject has announced the Debut PRO, a new high-end vinyl record player that pulls on thirty years of Hi-Fi heritage, combining elegant minimalist aesthetics with advanced technical design.
The Debut PRO builds on the popular Debut model, but layers improvements at every turn.
The deck arrives with a newly designed, pre-adjusted Ortofon Pick-IT PRO cartridge and 8.6-inch one-piece carbon-aluminium tonearm. This tube is light and rigid, reflecting the characteristics of carbon fibre.
The arm is finished with a new CNC milled aluminium bearing block with special bearings, high-purity copper internal tonearm wiring, and a shielded junction box with gold-plated RCA output aligned.
Cartridge maker Ortofon describes the performance of the Pick-IT PRO as ‘lively and robust with an extensive dynamic range.’ The cartridge is based on the classic Ortofon 2M body, adopting a classic Stereo Pick-Up design.
The deck benefits from an eight-layer hand-painted MDF chassis, and boasts a precision aluminium platter height-adjustable metal feet and a stylish electronic speed change rocker switch, which covers 33, 45, and 78 RPM playback. The speed control system ensures the motor rotation is electronically regulated, for total accuracy and stability.
The traditional rectangular footprint helps minimise vibrations.

The Pro-ject Debut Pro is ready to partner with speakers and Hi-Fi system
Intensive research, development, and listening tests have resulted in the exact sound that Pro-Ject was looking for in producing the Debut PRO, we’re told. By adding more high-end features than ever before to a Debut design, the result is a reassuringly affordable turntable able to turn in an audiophile performance.
The Debut PRO comes with its Ortofon cartridge pre-installed and all the accessories you’ll need to start relistening to your vinyl record collection. Just connect the Debut Pro to a Hi-Fi system (with a moving magnet phono stage) and you’ll be good to go. It’s bundled with a dust cover and a Connect-IT E phono cable in the box.
The original Debut record deck was launched in 1998, and has since seen multiple iterations, garnering awards over the years.
Released to commemorate the thirtieth anniversary of Pro-Ject Audio Systems, this new Debut Pro turntable, available from September, priced £699, is likely to be just as lauded.
